Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) For Hair Regrowth
At Emily Miller Aesthetic Medicine we take an individualized approach to treating hair loss in both men and women.
What you Get
You will receive a consultation and medical history to determine any underlying causes of hair loss. We will then make appropriate recommendations for treatment, which may include non-surgical interventions and medication.
Non-Surgical and Natural Treatment
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) combined with microneedling treatment of the scalp is a safe and effective solution for hair loss. This treatment is well evidenced in scientific research. Many people are turning to PRP to support hair regrowth as a natural alternative to hair implant surgery, and also to thicken thinning hair in people who are not appropriate surgical candidates. Results are easy to maintain, typically requiring just one treatment a year after your initial series.
How Does PRP Work?
PRP harnesses your body's growth factors and stem cells to regenerate body tissues and regrows hair when delivered to the scalp. Your treatment series will be spaced apart by 4 -6 weeks to deliver PRP throughout the hair cycle.
Phases of the Hair Cycle and How Hair Regrowth Works
- The anagen phase is when your hair grows - your hair follicle forms a new hair shaft. Most (90%) of the hair on your scalp is in a growing phase that lasts from 2 to 6 years.
- The catagen phase follows the anagen phase. This is a 1- to 2-week transition stage between anagen and telogen. Less than 1% of your scalp hair is in this phase.
- The telogen phase is the rest stage. At the end of this 3- to 4-month phase, some of your hair falls out. Losing up to 100 hairs a day is normal. When a hair falls out, a new hair grows in the same hair follicle, and the growing cycle begins again. PRP shortens the telogen phase.
PRP pushes the hair from the resting phase (when it takes a break from growing) into the active growing phase, keeping it there longer than usual. The result is that you will have less hair follicles resting without a hair in them, making the hair fuller. PRP floods the scalp with elements essential to the hair growth process, increasing the number of hairs on the scalp and their thickness and density.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
PRP + microneedling achieves best results when done in a series. The number of treatments required to restore hair in the initial series ranges from 2 - 4 and will vary depending on the individual.
How will I Maintain my Results?
You will need to do maintenance treatments to keep the results from your initial series. We recommend one maintenance treatment six months after finishing your initial treatment series. And then approximately one maintenance treatment annually, depending on the individual.
Will I Need to Take Medication?
Research shows that best results for hair regrowth occur when PRP and microneedling are combined with topical Minoxidil (brand name Rogaine).
What Does PRP and Microneedling For Hair Regrowth Cost?
PRP Hair Restoration with Microneedling $1,050 per session
